Natsume's wikia entry

Tonari wiki entry

Essentially when Natsume was younger she was always praised by everyone for being cute, she loved her father and would constantly want to be around him. She's a complete daddy's girl, and proud of it. When she got older and was in middle school she was bullied by the general populace, by the girls because they shunned her for being cute and only attracting male attention, and the males all just found her cute and wanted to talk to her and ask her out all the time. She hated it all and she just wanted friends so she ended up turning to the internet and decided to try and get friends that way.

After all that she entered high school, still that lonely girl that stayed on the internet all the time but she slowly starts to branch out and ask Shizuku to help her with studying.
Personality:

Asako Natsume is a girl that seemed to have developed early on in life, much earlier than her other classmates, because of this she found herself attracting all sorts of unwanted attention. In middle school she longed for a friend, she wanted a female friend that she could laugh with and share any kind of story with and simply hang out with them. The boys however kept hitting on her, trying to ask her out, all of that sort and it didn't seem to stop. Due to this she was shunned by the females in her school, even when she thought she had finally gotten a friend the boy that her so called friend liked came on to her and in the end the friendship had broken up before it had even gotten started. Ever since then she had been the one that started to shun the male populace, wanting nothing to do with them due to her fear that they'll just hit on her and start to fall for her when she really didn't want that. She wanted friends before getting into a real relationship. That being said however, there are certain interests she has in the opposite sex. Since just immature boys go for her she seems to have developed a liking for older men, particularly those that are like her father since she seems to have some kind of daddy complex. Essentially she's attracting to those that aren't always hitting on her and seem mature and older, and when she does fall for someone she falls for them hard. She'll go out of her way to make them love her if they don't, that doesn't usually happen and it's so rare for her to have to fight for love but she'll do it if she feels like she has to. At one point in canon she develops a crush for Haru's cousin, Mitsuyoshi, and he's ten years older than her but she says that age doesn't matter and that she wants him to wait for her until she can grow up and they'll be together. She keeps wanting to hang out with him, makes him chocolates for Valentine's Day, and just constantly flirts with him but he keeps on rejecting her. In the end she's turned down and she takes the rejection hard, becoming sullen for a couple chapters.

Due to the fact that she gets such unwanted attention from boys and completely shunned by all the girls she turns her sights towards the internet, she first goes on it during middle school and joined forums and communities in order to gain friends that she couldn't get in real life. She runs away from her problems and turns t the internet in order to console her lonely heart. She hasn't ever met up with anyone from her internet communities but she does eventually, feeling so nervous about it but also it's very important to her. She runs a blog where she's asked questions and she tries to offer advice the best she can. Her typing skills and her spelling however leaving much to be desired. She uses emoticons and typos all over the place and can rarely spell properly, at one point Shizuki goes to her blog to say something to her but ends up leaving her a comment about how bad her spelling is and that she should study more.

Now, Natsume isn't the brightest light bulb around. She doesn't really study and when she does she simply doesn't understand any of it, and she is constantly needing help. In school she has low grades, rarely passing tests and always needing to take the makeup exams, so she's always asking the friends that she manages to make in canon for help so they often find themselves in study groups that Natsume put together. If she does manage to understand the content she simply gets enough of it to barely pass the test, she holds it up with pride and says that it's the highest mark she's ever gotten. Shizuku often asks her how she even got into the school, but it seemed like she had tried hard enough before getting into the high school to make it.

Natsume herself has a wide range of insecurities due to her past. She doesn't have much self confidence, often times feeling lonely and craving the attention of others. She just wants friends and she'll do anything to get it, she wants to feel close to people but she hates it when they keep their distance, it's why she'll find herself becoming upset with Shizuku since she thought they were friends but she doesn't share much information with her that girls usually would share. She feels like any guy she meets will fall in love with her so she has to tell them not to, she will very rarely trust any guys to come near her and the only ones she seems to get along with are Haru, Sasayan and Mitsuyoshi. To most, she feels like she's just a nuisance and that she's just some dumb girl that's trying way too hard, a useless person that can't do anything right. She doesn't have much confidence since everyone eventually leaves her so she tries to cling to people and wants to hold those relationships close. When she does have a problem she'll very rarely tell people about it, since she's so used to being alone she finds herself keeping her problems mostly to herself, only sometimes telling someone about them. she grows frustrated at times with her friend Sasayan since he tries to help her and console her and she takes it that he's actually hitting on her since she believes that no guy can really be nice to her unless they want something else. This, of course, causes a fight with her friend and she soon apologizes to him, claiming that she wants to be friends with him forever. All she wants is friends and people close to her that she can do anything with, she tries her best to get to that stage with others. Of course, as long as they don't fall in love with her.

Other than all that Natsume is just a normal high school girl, she's rather energetic and cheerful, she tries her best but mostly finds herself slacking off to have fun with her friends or to go online. She's pretty silly, goofing off and singing weird songs, trying to get a laugh with her fellow classmates. On occasion she has put on silly costumes at parties and such to try and breathe even more life into the party, hoping to do funny gags and get some positive reactions from that. She can get flustered easily, scared when dealing with the opposite sex as well, or even change to a more irritable and sullen attitude when things don't go her way or when she's feeling irritated about something. She's quick to turn down any love confessions, and will only go out with someone after she herself has started to develop a crush on them, but even that's highly unlikely. She finds herself becoming involved in the business of other people a lot as well, she's always interfering with Shizuku's love life with Haru, trying to offer advice to the two of them or attempting to keep out those that might ruin their relationship. She's told others to stay away from them and that they're perfectly happy together, she had told this to the class rep of another class that seemed to develop a crush on Haru, but Natsume told her that she should find someone else. However, later on she informed the class rep that she understands what it's like to fall for someone that you can't have and she shouldn't have said that. When she finds herself becoming overly happy or even sad, Natsume is someone that is quick to let the crocodile tears flow right out of her. She's someone that often times cries in front of others, she simply can't help it.

Other: She really isn't internet famous, she just likes to think she has tons of friends on it.

[The video starts off with Natsume sitting at her computer, her legs drawn up and her head resting on her knees before she perks up a little. Okay... gotta do this right, she can do it!]

H...hello! Um, I'm making this br...broadcast because.... well, I was thinking about how I talk about things that go on in real life- and since I do a lot of that already I wanted to do it over video instead, ehehe.... isn't that a little bit more personal?

[She's trying here at least.]

So let's see here, what can I talk about? Mmmm.... well another guy confessed to me, actually two more did... I turned them down of course, whenever they do that it just makes me feel horrible.

Anyways, when you think about it isn't it a little weird how people are attracted to others so easily? I mean, shouldn't you get to know the person or even consider their feelings when dealing with stuff like that? I think you should....

Right, so... what do you g- [just then Natsume's phone started to vibrate, and upon looking at who was calling her she seems to have totally forgotten about the video.]

Y-yes?! Hello?! M...Mitty?! Why are y..... ah! Alright I'll come over right away, don't move!

[Natsume turned off her phone, beaming, but she spotted the video feed and quickly turned it off.]

Third Person:

"Okay, byyyeee!"

Natsume waved to her friends, seeing them off and she watched them go as she lowered her arm. She stared at their retreating backs, a sigh escaping her, the cold weather turning her breath into a visible form. She stayed like that for a few moments, simply thinking about if she should take out her phone and text them, ask them to come back, or perhaps ask them if she could go over to their house and hang out for a while longer. She was lonely, she knew that, but it didn't really strike her until she saw them going away and moving off into the distance. She really did crave the contact of other people, huh? She couldn't help it, after she's been deprived of it for so long it's like she wants it all at once now.

Eventually she turned, going the opposite direction of Haru and Shizuku, and with each step she felt like she was not only physically moving away from them but emotionally as well. That loneliness that cascaded over her when they left her was like a curse, she knew that. She needed to get over this feeling, she needed to come to terms with it and understand that they're all friends now, they're not going to leave her or anything.... right?

She prayed that they wouldn't leave her, she had a feeling she couldn't take it if that happened again.

Just as she thought this she felt her phone vibrate, ringing in her pocket. She reached into it, pulling out the device and she noticed that it wasn't the two that left her just now that had sent her a message, no it was her other friend Sasayan. She opened the phone and saw the text from him, stating that they should get together tomorrow to hang out. She had been pouting while walking back home but she found herself smiling at the message, she quickly pressed the buttons and typed something back to him.

ok! c u tmrrow then!

Well, at least with this she'll get through another day, she won't feel as lonely since she has something to look forward to tomorrow.
